Which One to Choose – SEO or SMO?

Google has always been the traffic bellwether, and have incorporated various methods and modes to enable websites to maintain their ranking in the search engine. Google has in fact been seen to turn its inclination towards social media optimization over search engine optimization. Hence people today are more and more acting in favor of SMO rather than SEO.

Thus there are quite a few reasons owing to which people are turning towards SMO, they are:

  1. Panda Update: The Google Panda Update has been the most significant change over the past five years. Its responsibility has been to make the search results game harder to play by the websites. Pages cannot be thin and the impact on content was tremendous, hence resulting in considerable traffic dropouts.
  2. Post Rank Acquisitions: Google did acquire PostRank in the year of 2011, which is a social media based analytic company. It is responsible for measuring how much well liked your content is depending on the number of likes, tweets and links. Hence it can be said that social signals were always preferred by Google.
  3. Google+ and Its Launches: Google has gradually recognized the threats of Facebook and definitely wants its users to be logged in all the time. Since Google is planning for more than 100 launches, they are thus advocating the social media optimization and its investments.
  4. Blocking Keyword Data: Since Google is likely to increase its social platforms to a huge numbers there is a tendency that more number of people will now be logged in all the time. Hence it has ordered to block the keyword data from being displayed, owing to some security measures.

 It is however not that SEO is dead but the difference lies in the thing that SMO is considered to be the most transformative agent in this decade. This is a period of smart phone and tablets; as a result social networking is done on a larger basis, hence social media optimization. But however one should not have this wrong idea that optimization at the social media platform is easy. It also requires readers/users/visitors to make the page attractive and hence achieve scale. Hence SMO though is not easy but is quite interesting and is gaining importance in the recent years.
